Pottery in the square

The center of pottery square is filled with sun drying clay ware. It’s a lovely place to simply sit back and watch from the sidelines.

Since the introduction of plastic and cheap products from China traditional pottery here has been on the decline for the past few decades. Nowadays most sales go to the handicraft and souvenir stalls.  Families have been working here for centuries and trying their best to continue doing so.

The “Genuine Thangka Painting School” has been around here for a few years. It offers large and private thangka painting classes. It’s often booked out and takes group bookings. Prices start from 2000 rupees but skyrocket depending on the paints and materials you use.
